How to download your data from Grace
Where to find the Download my data button, what the file contains, and what to keep in mind before you leave a family or delete your account.
Your chats with Grace are yours. Sometimes you want a copy of them: to keep a record, to look back at a long planning conversation, or before you leave a family. Grace lets you download everything your account holds in one file, in a few clicks.
Who can download their data
The download is for adults with their own account: parents, adult members and seniors. It covers every family your account belongs to, in one file.
Child accounts are managed by a parent, so the button is not shown to them, and a parent cannot use it to download a child’s data. Each download is made for the person who is signed in, and only for them.
Download your data, step by step
1. Open your Account page
Sign in to Grace. In the sidebar, open the menu under your name and choose Me, the entry labelled “Account, security and voice”. This opens your Account page.
2. Find the Your data card
Scroll down past Where you’re signed in and Recent security activity. The Your data card says “Download your profile, family memberships, conversations and security activity as a JSON file.”
3. Choose Download my data
Select Download my data. The button shows Preparing while Grace gathers your information, then your browser saves the file. You do not need to enter your password.
The file is named after the day you downloaded it, for example grace-account-export-2026-10-17.json.
What the file contains
The file includes:
- when it was exported
- your account details: your name, email address, account type and when the account was created
- every family you belong to, with your role, your status and when you joined
- every conversation you started, with all of its messages, who wrote each one, and when
- messages you wrote in other people’s shared conversations
- your recent security activity, up to the latest 500 entries
What it does not include
Some things belong to the family workspace rather than to you, so they are not in your personal download:
- family documents and uploaded files
- knowledge bases
- billing and receipts, which parents can download from the Stripe billing portal
If you would like a copy of anything else we hold about you, our privacy policy explains how to ask.
Opening the file
JSON is plain text. You can open the file in any text editor, or drag it into a browser window to read it. It is not pretty, but everything is there, with dates and times next to each entry.
The file contains your private conversations, so treat it like any other personal document. Keep it somewhere safe, and delete copies you no longer need.
Before you leave a family or delete your account
The same Account page has a Leave or delete card. Both actions ask for your current password:
- Leave this family removes you from the family you are signed in to. If it is your only family, your account is deleted too.
- Delete my account removes your account from every family. This is permanent and cannot be undone. Your conversations are deleted, while documents and shared projects stay with the family.
If you are the only parent in a family, you cannot leave it or delete your account until another parent has been added. Ask your Grace representative to add one first.
Because your conversations do not come back, download your data first. It takes a moment, and it means you keep your own copy of everything you and Grace worked on together.
